All fitness levels are welcome and encouraged. Our programming is scalable and tailored to each retreat — whether you’re just getting back into training or you’re very experienced and competing. Based on your pre-retreat onboarding call and 1-on-1 assessment, Tom and Alex will adjust the intensity and volume based on your ability and goals. It is an active retreat so you should probably have a baseline of working out at least 2-3 times a week but at same time all workouts and activities are optional. This retreat is equally appropriate for high level athletes whether you are into Hyrox, crossfit, strongman, bodybuilding or any functional fitness.
With only 2 coaches and 6–12 guests, you get the perfect mix of group energy and individual attention and modifications.
-
You must be 18 years or older to join our retreats.
-
We limit each retreat to 6–12 guests.
Why this number?
Small and intimate — We want to create a close, supportive group atmosphere where everyone gets to know each other.
Personal attention — With two coaches (Tom and Alex), this size allows us to give real individual feedback, especially during 1-on-1 assessments and training sessions.
Better experience — Smaller groups mean smoother logistics, more flexibility with activities, and a stronger sense of community.
-
No, you don’t have to follow every activity.
Our itinerary is designed as a guide to give you the best experience possible, but we want you to enjoy the week in a way that feels right for you.
You’re welcome to:
Opt out of any session or adventure if you need more rest or recovery
Swap an activity for free training time at the hotel gym or Headstrong Fit
Take a morning off to sleep in or explore on your own
We’ll always give you the option and full support either way. The goal is for you to leave feeling recharged — not exhausted.
-
Yes — there is built-in free time each day.
While the retreat has a full and exciting schedule, we’ve intentionally designed it with balance in mind. You’ll typically have:
Free time in the afternoons (usually 2–4 hours) to rest, train on your own, explore downtown SLO, or relax by the pool.
Two evenings with no planned dinner so you can explore San Luis Obispo on your own (we provide recommendations). One of these nights lines up with the famous SLO Farmers Market.
We believe recovery and personal time are just as important as the activities. You’re welcome to join group activities or take time for yourself — it’s your week.
-
Yes — absolutely!
Solo travelers are very welcome. Since we keep our groups small (maximum 12 people), it’s easy to meet others and connect with the group from the very beginning. You’ll be training, adventuring, eating meals, and exploring together with everyone else.
We expect many people will be attending on their own, and it should be a great way to meet like-minded people.
-
Yes — we do both!
We are happy to host private group bookings and corporate retreats.
Whether it’s a team-building experience for your company, a reward for high-performing employees, or a private group of friends/family, we can tailor the retreat to your needs.
We can customize:
Duration (3–6 days)
Focus (team-building, leadership, wellness, fitness, etc.)
Dates (private dates available)
If you're interested in a corporate or private retreat, please reach out directly so we can discuss options and create a custom proposal for your group.
-
No problem - you're never required to take part in anything you don't want to do. Just know we can't swap it out for another paid activity due to logistics, but we'll usually have something else going on alongside it (like an alternative to surfing) if it's not your thing.
Since this is an all-inclusive package, the price stays the same either way - whether you do every activity or just the ones you love.

-
Yes.
All guests are required to stay at the official retreat accommodation (Hotel Cerro or the partnered property). This is important for several reasons:
Group cohesion and the community experience
Logistics and transportation for daily activities
Morning and evening sessions (yoga, dinners, etc.)
Safety and support from the team
Staying elsewhere makes it very difficult to run the retreat smoothly and takes away from the overall group dynamic we’re trying to create.
